On May 19, 2016, over 108 job employers came together looking for job seekers to fill out their available positions. The Monterey County is known for many things, for example agriculture industry that produces a lot of the countries vegetable produce, as well as city of Monterey whom attracts tourist all over California to view the coast lines. The community job fairs are always a great place to network with companies or individuals that may seek your services one day. As I arrived and looked around the room I was surprised on how many people (young to senior) were looking for a job around the area. The group who organized the community job fair did a great job on reaching out to employers who were in need of job seekers, as well as the variety of industries that were present looking for various positions to interview for.
When walking around asking employers “what are your expectations for the day?” a lot of them had a similar answer. For example, speaking to the Branch Manager at Universal Protection Services he mentioned that he had six positions to fill out because he believe the economy is on the uprise. Also, others like Alvarez Technology Group and Consumer Electric Inc. both said they were looking for people who had knowledge of the field and understood the industry. A lot of others companies mentioned that they were their to network with job seekers and potentially helping them down the road. On the other hand, the most popular booth in the room was the Monterey Bay Aquarium who where looking for job seekers, however those position were very specific. Overall, it was a great experience going around meeting people and understanding the job market in the county.
